Cymdeithas Hanesyddol Coedpoeth History Society
On a cold night in late January with snow still lying on the ground an audience of 40 hardy souls ventured out to Plas Pentwyn to see an illustrated talk
entitled “Clwyd-Powys Archaeological Trust & the archaeology of NE and Mid Wales” presented by Jeff Spencer. The presentation began with an overview of the
work of the Trust before discussing several discoveries of archaeological interest in and around Coedpoeth. These ranged from Bronze Age cremation urns to
metal mines and brickworks of the 19th centuries. Also mentioned were the CPAT project at Borras Quarry, Wrexham, the Second World War and Cold War era
factory at Rhydymwyn, Flintshire and several items discovered in the surrounding area by members of the public and recorded on the national Portable
Antiquities Scheme database.
“This was a wonderful introduction for me as to what the Archaeological Trust are about” – Mrs Thomas.
Coedpoeth History Society meet every third Thursday in the month (except August and December) at the Plas Pentwyn Centre, Castle Road, Coedpoeth.
