European Union funded project at Hindwell, Powys
CPAT has just produced a new publication on their recent work in the Walton Basin, Powys:
The Walton Basin, Powys, Wales: Survey at the Hindwell Neolithic Enclosure is written by Alex Gibson (Clwyd-Powys Archaeological Trust) with contributions by Helmet Becker (Bayerisches Landesamt fur Denkmalpflege), Jeff Davies (University of Wales, Aberystwyth), Nigel Jones (Clywd-Powys Archaeological Trust), Chris Martin (Clywd-Powys Archaeological Trust) and Barry Masterson (Discovery Programme) and was published by the Clwyd-Powys Archaeological Trust with the aid of a grant from the European Commission and Cadw: Welsh Historic Monuments.
This attractive 80 page book describes and illustrates a 3 year project to quantify and characterise the total archaeology of the Walton Basin using a number of different archaeological techniques including geophysical survey, aerial photography and excavation. This area was proved to be a particularly rich archaeological landscape with a wealth of prehistoric sites, including what was discovered to be the largest Neolithic enclosure in Europe.
