Recent excavation and Survey in the Walton Basin
The on-going excavation and survey projects focused around Walton and Hindwell in eastern Radnorshire was the subject of a talk in the Arkwright Hall, Kinsham by CPAT's Nigel Jones on the 10th November. The evening was organised by the Byton, Combe, Kinsham and Stapleton History Group, with around 60 people packing into the hall to hear the results of recent work. The talk focused on recent work to investigate a number of important Neolithic sites, including the
Womaston causewayed enclosure
, the palisaded enclosures at Walton
and Hindwell, a potential
cursus at Hindwell
, an unusually large ring ditch at
Walton Court Farm.
Bringing the story right up to date the final section of the talk focused on a geophysical survey by the Trust around Hindwell Roman fort, the results from which were hot off the press that very morning.
