The Clwyd-Powys Archaeological Trust News - old stories

We're in the news!

Early in the New Year CPAT staff were present at the monthly meeting of the Wrexham Heritage Society. Their role was to identify mystery artefacts discovered by members of this metal detecting club and to collect choice items for further study back at the office. The Wrexham Heritage Society are a responsible group who for several years now have been working closely with CPAT to record all their discoveries over 300 years of age for the Portable Antiquities Scheme. The evening was further enlivened by a visit from a reporter of the Wrexham Evening Leader, who took time to speak to Jeff Spencer of CPAT, Wrexham Heritage Society Chairman Roy Griffiths and society member John Formstone, finder of a hoard of Roman silver coins.

For more information on the Iron Age horse harness fragment featured in the photo accompanying the article visit its record on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database here.

Rare ancient artefact...and an Iron Age horse harness fitting!
