Recent Survey and Excavation in the Walton Basin - illustrated talk
Walton Parish Hall
CPAT's Nigel Jones will be talking about CPAT's recent work digging and surveying in the Walton Basin on the central Powys borders. The talk, to the
Old Radnor WI will be held at
Walton Parish Hall
on the 6th April, 2010, and will start at 7.30pm.
Nigel will look in particular at the results of geophysical survey and excavation at sites such as the recently discovered Neolithic causwayed enclosure at
Womaston, the enigmatic
cursus monument at Hindwell and the unusually large cropmark ring ditch at
Walton Court Farm.

Prehistoric burial and ritual sites in the Elan Valley - guided walk
Elan Valley Visitor Centre
Archaeologist Nigel Jones leads a moderate 5 mile walk to visit an important group of prehistoric burial cairns on Gro Hill and a stone circle at
Crugiau Bach. The walk includes sections of moorland and a small stream crossing. Bring appropriate clothing, footwear and lunch. Meet at the
Elan Valley Visitor Centre at 12.00pm returning by
5.00pm. A joint event with the Cambrian Mountains Society.

Wales and the West during the Bronze Age: Character, Comparison and Contacts - archaeological conference
The National Museum of Wales, Cardiff
CPAT are helping to organise what will be one of the most important
conferences on the prehistory of Wales for many years. The conference
will be held at the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff on 24-25th April 2010,
under the auspices of the Royal Archaeological Institute, Amgueddfa
Cymru-National Museum Wales and the Cambrian Archaeological Association.
The conference will feature amongst
others Professor Tim Darvill from Bournemouth University, Professor
Martin Bell, from Reading University, Professor John Koch of the
University of Wales, and Dr Robert Johnston from Sheffield University.
The Trust's director, Bill Britnell, will also be giving a paper, and
our Chairman of Trustees, Frances Lynch will be chairing one of the
sessions.

Powysland Club in Newtown.

Prehistoric ritual and medieval farming in the Elan Valley - guided walk
Pont ar Elan
Archaeologist Nigel Jones leads a moderate 5 mile walk to visit a number of prehistoric sites including Maen Serth and Maengwyngweddw standing stones,
a burial cairn and a stone row, as well as abandoned medieval ‘summer houses’. The walk includes a stream crossing. Bring appropriate clothing,
footwear and lunch. Meet at the Pont ar Elan at 12.00pm back by 5.00pm. A joint event with the
Cambrian Mountains Society.

Excavation and survey in the Walton Basin - illustrated talk
Arkwright Hall, Kinsham
CPAT's Nigel Jones will be concluding his tour of the village halls of the Marches by talking to the
Byton, Combe, Kinsham and Stapleton History Group at Arkwright Hall, Kinsham on the
10th November, 2010 at 7.30pm. He will be reviewing CPAT's work digging and surveying in the Walton Basin.
