Robert Griffiths, the deputy town clerk of Welshpool established a bank at his legal pracice at 41 Broad Street, some time between 1779 and 1790. Was called Griffiths, Pugh and Turner, but changed its name to Montgomeryshire Old Bank in 1796 (Brown, R L, 2000, 54).
