Clwyd Metal Mines Survey


Creigiau Eglwyseg

Creigiau Eglwyseg lies in the community of Llantysilio in the county of Denbighshire. It is located at Ordnance Survey national grid reference SJ2190044800. The mine is recorded in the CPAT Historic Environment Record as number 18055 and this number should be quoted in all correspondence.

Lead (Early 19th century)

Geology
Carboniferous Limestone.

Workings
Aerial photography has revealed trials along an east to west vein on the Eglwyseg Rock escarpment. Adits appear to lead in to workings on the rock face. Documentary evidence refers to leases for lead and copper on the Eglywyseg rocks on the Wynnstay Estates from as early as 1771.
