Background
The Curatorial Sections of the four Welsh Archaeological Trusts (Clwyd-Powys, Dyfed,
Glamorgan-Gwent, Gwynedd) are responsible for giving advice to local planning
authorities on archaeological matters in the planning process, and to other
bodies involved in landscape management and heritage matters in Wales. This advice includes the prescription of
archaeological work arising from development proposals. A list of contractors who might be
approached to carry out such work will normally accompany this advice.
The list will neither carry nor imply any approval or endorsement by the
Trusts of individuals or organisations appearing on it, but it will be subject to
review based on contractors' performance.
The list will be revised at least once per year. While its main
use will be for planning matters it will be available to anyone wishing to
engage an archaeological contractor to work in Wales.

The Curatorial Officers of Welsh Archaeological Trusts
will decide, in good faith, whether or not to include you in the next list of
contractors based on the details that
you supply here (including information from referees). Subsequently they will monitor your
adherence to IFA Standards (or similar professional standards) and your
performance as an archaeological contractor in Wales (against your initial
submission and your approach to
subsequent specified works), and thereby assess your suitability to remain on
the list. Appeals against exclusion or
removal from the list will be heard by the Welsh Archaeological Trusts
Committee. Serious breaches of IFA
standards by IFA members will be reported to the IFA.
