PRN 65604 - Ffridd Fawr cow shed

NGR :- SH9468503974 (SH90SW)
Prefered site type :- Post Medieval - Cow shed (Building - Intact )

An intact rubble-stone single-storey cow shed with a rubble-stone extension to the north-east and a modern extension to the north-west.

The south-east elevation has five doorways, one giving access to each bay. The doorways at either end of the elevation and the central doorway are the full height of the wall while the other two are lower. The north-east facing gable has no evidence of openings. The wall is bowing outwards between the middle dooway and the doorway to the south-west of the middle. The north-west elevation has one modern opening through the south-west end giving access into the modern extension. The south-west elevation has no evidence of openings. The extension to the north-east has a door in the north-east gable.

Four tie-beam trusses with pegged inclined racking struts support a double purlin roof with a corrugated iron covering. A timber box frame attached to each tie beam forms internal divisions. There is evidence of a floor in the second bay from the north-east, there are mortices all along a beam across the middle of the bay and holes in the walls which would have supported joists.
