PRN 721 - Cerrig Caerau stone circle
Scheduled Ancient Monument Mg066(POW)

A circle of nine stones with a 22.2m diameter and 69.7m perimeter. Five of the stones are probably in their original position. There are two small stones not on the circle.

Has eight large stones which Burl states have fallen but five of these are boulder like and lie with their centres exactly on a circle and the remainder are long stones with their ends on the circle. Possibly only these last three have fallen and the other five are in situ (Hoyle, J R, 1984, 53, fig 4)

A circle of eight recumbent stones lying in animal worn hollows on unimproved moorland. They are unevenly spaced and each measures between 1.2m and 2.0m. Centrally within the circle is a distinct oval shaped hollow. A radius of 11.0m from this hollow coincides with the approximate circumference of the circle with three hollows between stones A and B and two hollows between stones A and H. These are clearly distinguishable as areas of fresher grass and may represent the positions of stones subsequently removed (Cadw, 1998)
