Bleaze's plan of 1629 shows a Market house in the centre of Broad Street just west of the Cross. It was a building of 2 floors, the upper floor used for the Court of the Great Sessions. Flannel market was conducted underneath. Floor gave way in 1758 and the dangerous building was ordered to be pulled down in 1761 (Gilbert-Davies, I, 2000, 69).
