Spar (20th century)

Geology
Carboniferous Limestone.

Workings
A line of at least five small shafts run in a north-east to south-west direction through the woods. A deep stone-lined shaft is fenced off at SJ18786656. Older workings for lead followed an east to west vein westwards from Coed-du Hall. Evidence remains of the modern spar mining in the form of a gated incline adit level; the track beds of the incline are still in situ and run uphill to a platform area and a corrugated workman's hut. The ruins of the stone-built loading hopper remain and its crude corrugated ore shute, which descends westwards via a revetment wall. The concrete base adjacent to the hut presumably housed the winding gear.
